Next Boosters Meeting:  May 6 at 7:30 pm in the Band Room.

Thank you for visiting the SPHS Band and Orchestra webpage! This is the band and orchestra boosters’ sanctioned online source for band and orchestra information, but please remember that although this calendar will be updated regularly, the official calendar is located on the wall next to Mr. Greco’s desk in the band room.

The Severna Park High School’s instrumental music program, under the direction of Mr. Eric Greco, is comprised of the marching and symphonic bands, the orchestra, the SPHS Winter Guard, and a number of smaller musical groups and ensembles. The Band and Orchestra Boosters work year-round to support the program and facilitate the students’ participation in many events and competitions.

Severna Park Marching Band
The year begins in early August, when students report to band camp and begin to learn how to march with the marching band and to perform with the symphonic band. At the end of the week-long band camp, the students perform at their first concert of the season, and it’s always breathtaking to witness their transformation from individual musicians into a cohesive, proficient, and inspirational symphonic band.

Through the remainder of August, the band rehearses several days a week until school starts, and then the rehearsals continue, both after school and on occasional Saturdays, through early November. Late September marks the beginning of the competition season, and the marching band competes every weekend, at events held throughout the region, and SPHS hosts one such competition each year. The SPHS Marching Band has earned a reputation of discipline, musicianship, and excellence during its 40-plus years of competing, and each year’s show is better than the last.

Throughout the remainder of the year, the symphonic band performs several concerts, as does the orchestra. Students participate in solo and ensemble festivals, are encouraged to try out for such special opportunities as the Baltimore Symphony Side-By-Side and All-County Band and Orchestra, and can also audition to be in any of a number of small ensembles. One of these is the Windjammers, SPHS’s superb jazz band, which frequently is invited to perform at special events in the county. And from December through March, the award-winning SPHS Winter Guard rehearses and participates in regional competitions throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Each April, the band and orchestra go on “Spring Trip” to an exciting destination such as Disney World or Busch Gardens Florida. While there, the students perform in concerts and march in parades, enjoy everything the theme parks have to offer, and are treated to a “mystery dinner” and surprise special event.

In order to fund everything the students do through the school year, we ask every parent to become a member in the Band and Orchestra Boosters, to participate in the fundraisers and events we sponsor, and to commit to wholeheartedly supporting their student by being actively involved. It takes a tremendous amount of money, planning, manpower, effort, and commitment to pull off each year’s schedule of events, but the payoff is immeasurable. Every student makes lifelong friendships, develops lifelong skills, and creates memories that last a lifetime. In my experience, the same is true of the adults who participate in the Boosters organization. I hope you’ll join us!

Please make it a point to attend our monthly booster meetings, held in the band room at 7:30 on the first Wednesday of every month. Please feel free to email me any time at if you have any questions or just want more information about the program.
