    PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We welcome those reviewing this site whether you’re here for the first time or the hundredth! The Severna Park Band & Orchestra Boosters, Inc, is an organization dedicated to the support and motivation of the Severna Park High School band and orchestra and to all the wonderful students involved. Few things are as rewarding as watching young people work and play together as they mature toward future productive lives in our society. The SPHS music program is a fabulous way for our youth to get involved, share friendships, gain leadership experience, and learn the value of teamwork.

    Published 10/11/11

Normally, seeing their cross-town rivals march off with a first-place win would have stung the Broadneck High School Marching Bruins. But at Saturday's Bands by the Bay Tournament, Broadneck didn't flinch..... (Click Hometown Annapolis' logo to view the entire article)

The SPHS “BOB”, as we like to call it, is on the scene and behind the scenes for a year of activities surrounding the students. Highlights of the year include a series of Field Shows in the Fall, prominently including the SPHS hosted USBands competition on October 27, 2012. The Band performs at all home football games and band and orchestra are involved in several concerts throughout the school year. Springtime introduces opportunities for parades and a Spring Trip to perform at a major venue like Disney World, Sea World or Busch Gardens.

Of course it takes funding to support such a major operation and the BOB is there, supporting the students to raise the funds necessary to travel to field shows, buy and replace instruments and equipment, maintain and buy new uniforms, feed the students when schedules are tight, and generally support any and all needs to keep this a viable and successful program. To that end, SPHS Band & Orchestra Boosters, Inc is a 501(c) Non-Profit Organization and we most certainly welcome tax free donations to support the band and orchestra. If you want to become involved but can’t afford the personal time, may I encourage you to donate generously?

Our Director, R Thomas Powell, is committed to not only teach our students the virtues of music, but he is likewise dedicated to teaching them leadership and responsibility skills that transcend the music program. Across the board, our students take on responsibilities to run their respective organization from the student president, to section leaders, to squad leaders. It is exceptionally rewarding to see these young folks graduate and carry with them a passion for music and a set of leadership and followership skills that are learned through practical application.

2012 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)The Severna Park BOB is now a part of the 2012/2012 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). If you are a federal government employee, or have friends or relatives who are, please consider marking your CFC donation to SPHS Band and Orchestra Boosters. Any employee working in the Washington DC or Baltimore City, Accomack, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Dorchester, Harford, Howard, Kent, Northampton, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester counties area will find us in the CFC catalog that will distributed later this fall at your agency.

We hope anyone reading this will COME ABOARD and join the BOB to do our part to further the advancement of these wonderful young men and women at Serverna Park High School.

As a final note, it was an honor for me to serve you and the students as the 2011-2012 BOB President, and now serve again as the 2012-2013 BOB President. Thank you for your confidence. I could not say no to such an opportunity after 4 years of supporting the students from the football field sidelines and as a chaperone, it is an easy decision to spend time supporting them directly as Booster President. Please, please contact me at my email account (president@sphsmusic.org) or my cell phone 410-991-0129 if you have questions or comments. The entire BOB leadership team is committed to helping make this an exciting year for our orchestra and band!
