Welcome to the Severna Park Band and Orchestra Booster web page. Here you will find a plethora of
information about the band and orchestra at Severna Park High School. While we will do our best to keep the
calendar posted on this web site up to date, the official calendar is posted in the band room.
The 2015-2016 school year is going to be an exciting one at Severna Park. Mr. Eric Kilby is the
new band and orchestra director. We have heard good things about him and are excited to work with him this year.
Severna Park’s music program is made up of the orchestra, marching band, symphonic band, jazz band,
outdoor and indoor guard and a number of other musical groups and ensembles. The band and orchestra boosters work
very hard to support the program and facilitate the students participation in the many events and competitions.
|For students, the year begins in early August when they report to band camp.
Band camp is held at the school. It is a fun time, where the students learn to march with the marching band
and perform with the symphonic band. At the end of the week the students perform at their first concert of
Throughout August, until school starts, the marching band will rehearse several days a
week. After school starts they will continue to rehearse after school. The marching band performs at every
“home” football game and they will compete at many competitions in the area on Saturdays (and some Sundays)
through early November. The SPHS marching band has earned a reputation of discipline, musicianship and
excellence during its 40 plus years of competing.
Severna Park hosts a marching band competition each year. Because of the construction at Severna Park,
our home show will be held at Broadneck High School. This year the date is October 24th. Many local marching
bands compete at our home show as well as marching bands from up and down the east coast.
remainder of the school year, the orchestra and symphonic band performs several concerts. Many students participate
in All County Band and Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Side-By-Side and other solo and ensemble festivals. Many of
the students also perform with the Windjammers, Severna Park’s jazz band under the direction of Mr. Wilbur Hildebrand.
The Windjammers are often invited to perform at special events in the county. During the winter months the Severna
Park Winter Guard rehearses and competes in regional competitions throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania.
April, the band and orchestra goes on a “Spring Trip” to an exciting destination. The students will perform in
concerts and march in parades as well as enjoy what the area has to offer. They are also treated to a “mystery
dinner” and surprise special event.
In order to fund the many activities the students do at Severna Park, we hold a number of fundraisers
throughout the year. We ask every band and orchestra family to become a member of the boosters and support the
students by being actively involved. It takes a tremendous amount of money, planning, manpower, effort and
commitment to pull off each year’s schedule of events. Every student makes lifelong friendships and develops
lifelong skills. The same can be said for the parents that are involved as well.
Severna Park BOB is participating in the 2015 Combined Federal
Campaign (CFC). If you are a federal government employee, or have friends or relatives who are, please
consider marking your CFC donation to SPHS Band and Orchestra Boosters. Enrollment is open September 1
through December 15th. Federal employees can find the SPHS BOB in the CFC catalog being distributed now
using our 5 digit code: 59532
Please attend our monthly booster meetings, held in the band room at 7:30 on the first Wednesday of every
month. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at
