January 24, 2009

As the school’s first semester comes to a close and students get ready for final exams we can look back at our marching season with pride knowing how far everyone has come from those early days in band camp. As fall turned to winter we moved from marching to concerts culminating with the traditional holiday concert, a wonderful evening where the students shined and the boosters provided a festive atmosphere. Thank you to all the parents who worked behind the scenes to make these events a success.

Upcoming events include the All County Band competitions and the BSO Side-by-Side concert. Mark your calendar for our annual Ziti dinner that will be held on March 16th. And, watch your e-mail for our next “nights out” at Ledo’s February 18th.

Sub sales continue to be the largest money making venture for band and orchestra students. Boosters, Thank you for your continued support, especially for your most valued commodity, TIME, we are indebted to your service! Patrons, thank you for your continued support. We value your support for the Band and Orchestra program within our school. The dates for our next sub sales are February 21, March 14, and April 4 2009. If you would like to place an order for any upcoming sale, please contact Dave Chaffee at chaffeed@verizon.net two weeks prior to the above mentioned sale dates. He will hook you up with Severna Park's home made subs!

This year the Park Guard will be performing to “Rock Your Soul,” by Elisa. Indoor Guard performs indoors, usually in a gym during the winter season. There is no band involved, and guards perform to a recording of various musical genres. An indoor guard unit performs using dance along with various pieces of equipment: flags, rifles, and sabers. If you have any free time on one of the following dates, please consider coming to watch us compete. As the time draws nearer, you may contact Karen Garczynski at smilekar3@yahoo.com for performance times and directions. Each guard member will be selling Wolfgang Candy to help supplement the cost to run this program. If a guard member approaches you to purchase candy, please say yes.
